Follow this checklist to resolve the problem.
- Make sure that the CD-ROM drive is connected to the Secondary IDE Channel
on the motherboard and if the MD29 sound card is installed check that the IDE
jumper is disabled (jumper on one pin or off completely). Also check the
Master/Slave jumper setting on the drive. If the CD-ROM is the only drive on
that IDE channel then the jumper should be set to Master. If there is another
device on that cable, one should be Master and the other Slave.
- Check the CMOS Settings and make sure that the Secondary IDE Channel is
enabled.
- Check in Device Manager to see what is listed for Hard disk controller. If
the secondary IDE chanel is not listed or has a yellow exclamation mark nex to
it there are two possible problems.
- IDE drivers are not loaded properly.
- Load DOS drivers (Shut down and restart in MS-DOS mode) and reinstall
Windows95.
- There is a boot sector virus on the system.
- To check for a virus is to go to the Control Panel, click on System, and
click on Performance. If there is a line that reads "Your master boot
record has been modified" then there is a strong possibility that your
system has been infected with a virus. To remove the virus use a virus scanning
program to find and remove the virus. McAffee VirusScan is available on our
BBS and Web Site.
